Matija Vučinović is a Montenegrin saxophonist and music educator based in Austria, recognized for his versatile artistic career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral performer, and teacher.
Artistic and Concert Activity
Matija maintains an active concert career throughout Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein, and Montenegro. As a versatile performer, he regularly appears as a soloist, presenting both the standard saxophone repertoire and contemporary original works.
In 2024, he was awarded the prestigious Young Soloist Award by the Music Centre of Montenegro. As part of this recognition, he completed a successful nationwide concert tour under the auspices of the national program supporting outstanding young musicians.
As an orchestral musician, he regularly collaborates with distinguished ensembles, including:
- Bodensee Philharmonie, performing in symphonic and orchestral productions.
- Tiroler Festspiele Erl, where he has performed as a member of the official festival orchestra in Austria.
Teaching Career
Alongside his performing career, Matija is a dedicated music educator. Since 2023, he has been teaching saxophone at Musikschule Feldkirch, where he mentors and develops young talents. Beginning in September, he will also join the faculty of Musikschule Tonart in Hohenems, further expanding his pedagogical activities.
Chamber Music and Professional Development
In addition to his solo performances, Matija is the founder and artistic director of the renowned Stella Tango Quintett. With this ensemble, he regularly performs and oversees the artistic planning and organization of concerts. Notable appearances include a concert at the prestigious Villa Falkenhorst and the popular open-air picnic concert at Schlosspark Salem.
He continuously pursues professional development through international masterclasses with some of the world’s leading saxophonists and pedagogues, including Vincent David, Lars Mlekusch, Lars Niederstrasser, Femke IJlstra, Carlos Ordoñez, and others, most recently at Alpen Classica Saxfest 2025.
Awards and Recognition
Throughout his career, Matija has received numerous awards and distinctions, including:
- First Prize at the International Wind Festival in Tivat (2024).
- Seven First Prizes and one Second Prize at national and international competitions during his studies.
- A long-term scholarship recipient of the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation of Montenegro, in recognition of his exceptional talent and artistic achievements.
